Surrealism

Surrealism sought to unlock the dream world, the unconscious, and the irrational as legitimate sources for art. Rather than presenting reality as stable or coherent, Surrealist works often combine precision with impossibility, placing recognizable objects in strange, symbolic, or psychologically loaded relationships. The movement treats painting as a site where desire, fear, memory, and fantasy can surface in ways reason alone cannot organize.
