Post-Impressionism
Post-Impressionism grows out of Impressionism but pushes painting toward greater structure, symbolism, and emotional intensity. Rather than simply recording what the eye sees, artists in the movement used color, form, and composition to express feeling, memory, and the inner life of a subject. The category includes very different artists, but they share a sense that painting can move beyond optical impression toward something more personal, invented, and psychologically charged.
