Vincent van Gogh portrait

Vincent van Gogh

1853-1890

Van Gogh turned painting into an emotional language, using color, contour, and thick, directional brushwork to make ordinary subjects feel charged with inner life. Although he grew out of Post-Impressionism, his work pushes beyond observation toward feeling, memory, and spiritual intensity. What makes his paintings so powerful is the way they seem to hold both turbulence and tenderness at once, transforming fields, rooms, trees, and night skies into something urgent and human.
