Andy Warhol
1928-1987
Warhol made mass media, consumer products, and celebrity culture central subjects of serious art, collapsing the boundary between popular imagery and the gallery wall. Through repetition, silkscreen printing, and an intentionally cool surface, he showed how modern identity is produced through circulation, branding, and spectacle. His work can feel glamorous and detached at first glance, but it is often equally about death, emptiness, and the strange flattening effect of endless reproduction.
